An introduction

As of January 2017 we are happy to announce that 10% of the retail price of any Everwrist watch sold will be donated to a charity helping to reduce poverty in Nepal. Everest has inspired so many people, adventurers and thinkers alike, including our founders. As such it seems only right that as a company we do all we can to help those who need it. The Himalayan Trust charity, based in New Zealand, works tirelessly to improve the quality of schooling, health, and to help communities in the foothills of the Himalayas. We are happy to be working with such a well known and respected organization, and are fully committed to maintain this relationship throughout our development. We are excited to make a contribution, and we hope those who follow our brand and appreciate our timepieces will be equally happy to know that they will be contributing to this wonderful cause.

The Himalayan Trust Projects

The Himalayan Trust support a variety of projects, from improving health and well-being in communities, to helping with earthquake recovery by providing temporary shelter and school rooms for immediate relief, with the long-term goal of rebuilding the houses and schools destroyed or damaged in the earthquake.

The Himalayan Trust employ donations to recruit volunteer doctors, secure training and medical supplies. This has helped to bring about the near eradication of TB, and the total elimination of goitre and cretinism. Donations have also helped improve maternal care and continue to fund healthcare improvements in the region today.

The Everest region is prone to devastating avalanches, which disrupt and destroy the lives of the local inhabitants. The Himalayan Trust funds scholarships for children who lost a parent and provider, and would otherwise have had to give up on their education to support their families. The Avalanche Fund and education programme provide opportunities for the people of the Nepal Himalayas. It gives young people the option to follow a path towards a safer and more secure livelihood than that offered by guiding and portering in the treacherous mountains. Communities now have access to schools that would otherwise have been too far for children in the region to attend. The Himalayan Trust are committed to creating better, safer futures for the communities in the Everest region.

Access to safe water is something that so many take as a given, but for rural communities in the Everest region, it is entirely different. In the past, people would have to travel on foot for an hour to find water, often from unreliable sources, which they would then have to transport home in heavy containers carried on their back. Many communities still have no choice but to do this every day. The Lukla Drinking Water project was devised by the Himalayan Trust to plan, build and invest in a modern, safe drinking water system.

In the 2015 earthquakes thousands lost their lives, saw their homes destroyed and the key infrastructure, including the schools, hospitals, and roads heavily damaged. The Himalayan Trust was able to offer immediate relief to these communities. They provided temporary shelters to be used as homes and classrooms, and they are now focused on the long-term recovery and re-build of the infrastructure.
